Hello, I'm Zoraida. I have been creating jewelry for most of my life. Always fascinated by the artistic creations of world cultures. I'm particularly drawn to ancient and timelessly beautiful jewelry that surpasses fashion and fads. There is something special about things made by human hands that cannot be duplicated by machines. A little bit of the soul of the person who creates something becomes part of the object created. That is what is so unique and wonderful about handmade. When I create something, I cannot help but connect to it emotionally. I'm sure many other artists feel the same.
Everything I make is inspired by nature so this is a recurring theme in my work. I try to design each piece of jewelry as if it were the only one I ever made. Each item is unique and one of a kind although at times, a similar theme will repeat itself just like in nature.
Copper is my metal of choice both because of its' color and beauty as well as it's price, which makes it more affordable for most of us. The copper is often adorned by semi-precious gemstones and is hammered, wrapped, woven and other methods of wire work. I prefer to make my own findings as well so the clasps, chains and links are also handmade by me. This is truly a labor of love, for it takes it toll on my hands and eyes but there is a great feeling of accomplishment when the item is completed. I often hate to let it go to someone else, but I know that it will be worn and appreciated for years to come.
I sell my jewelry through my online shops at Artfire - http://zoraida.artfire.com. I exhibit and sell my jewelry through local craft shows as well. Special orders are welcome!
